Regional Coordinators
From Targawiki
NOTE: It should be noted that all this is in a proposal stage. Once TARGA has agreed to this approach, this page will become a part of the TARGA mission.

[edit] Overview
TARGA Regional Coordinators are the people and groups that help organize TARGA events. These coordinators are the "grass roots" organizers for TARGA. They are organized by regions/cities that they volunteer for.
[edit] Responsibilities
A Regional Coordinator is responsible for:
- Organizing traditional gaming events/demos at local conventions and/or
- Organizing traditional gaming events/demos at local game stores and/or
- Promoting traditional gaming at local groups or RPG meetups and/or
- Promoting traditional gaming in local media
[edit] Local conventions
A regional coordinator, or group, should take the opportunity to promote traditional gaming at local/regional conventions. This can be as simple as running a traditional game using older edition rules or one of the simulacra/retroclone games. Coordinators should plan on handing out the Old School Primer, the One Page Old School Primer or other traditional gaming overviews as they see fit. (Note to TARGA - we need to make these fliers have links/blurbs about TARGA, then provide download space on TARGA hosts.)
Regional coordinators will also work with Traditional Game Friendly Publishers and sponsors to get assistance with printing costs of fliers/handouts. These publishers may also have copies of their games or modules to use as demos and give away as prizes or swag. Regional Coordinators can work with the Sponsor Coordinator towards this end.
Regional coordinators can also use materials from the TARGA Resources Portal for their games.
[edit] Local game stores
A regional coordinator can also contact local game stores to run demos or participate in events like Free RPG Day or International Traditional Gaming Week. Just as with conventions, the regional coordinator will work with the Sponsor Coordinator to see if sponsorship is available.
[edit] Benefits
TBD - perhaps some sort of sponsorship recognition or a nice vacation in the tropics fully funded by our hard working minions delving in the gold mines in the Underdark? (In all seriousness, this is to TBD).

Suggestions for holding a convention event - is a good set of points to help you get started with organizing a con game.
[edit] Recruiting Folks Already Doing the Good Work
1) Find a convention in your area that features gaming. Wikipedia has a list that's good but far from complete.
2) Contact the directors and/or gaming track organizers of that con and ask "Who do you have that runs events of AD&D or other old out-of-print RPGs?" If they have a track history of traditional RPG events, or know someone in their area who has an existing old-school campaign:
a) talk to the organizers about what kind of convention-level support they'd like, such as CDs of free retro-clone material that they can use as prizes according to whatever system they have in place.
b) get the contact info for that GM and try to recruit them as a TARGA member. This involves first describing what TARGA is and getting them to think of themselves as a part of its mission; second getting them to hand out TARGA flyers and materials at their events, as above; and finally making sure they know how to find the TARGA website and join the mailing list if they want.
